Another Mary Sue, "strong female character," etc.


Yeah, and she's a mechanical engineer, no less. Because all these BScs in Mechanical Engineering are girls, right? Whereas, in reality, there's little over 10% female mechanical engineers in the US. So, I guess they had to cast a female lead to portray a mechanical engineer.

A male engineer would have fixed his escape pod and survived. She was too busy being fanatical, probably on the rag.

But they didn't put it in the film. So they decided her on the rag and fanatical was more believable.
