shareAgree. Its a very very tired remake of every startrek related series ever made. Except its trying to be cute about it, at the same time.
shareIt still did a better job of capturing the Star Trek feel, than every Star Trek that was made after it.
shareI can see it hitting the spot for certain viewers. I'm kind of a (snobby) SF purist, so most of those shows, esp. the ones portraying we're going to have domesticated like 7 different type of intelligent aliens in the next 400 years, come across as fairly silly. Besides which, the silliness of it seemed forced. Catching his wife in bed with the exploding alien was an early clue about what this show was attempting to do, which did not draw me in. At all.
I can see it as being light entertainment for many. Just, personally, was underwhelmed.
My theory is that they wouldn’t just let Seth McFarland make a “Star trek” type show, without making it a Seth McFarland show. So his typical brand of humor is there, but it’s a small part of show. It still feel like they put a lot of respect into making it a good sci fI show. Usually it’s the first, or last few minutes that have humor, and everything in between is sci fI.
If you like old school trek, I would suggest giving it a little more of a chance to see if it catches you. But for me it’s still way closer to that old Star Trek thst I love, than the new stuff. Star Trek Picard shits on next generation, way more than the Orville does. The Orville is a homage in comparison
