The "Two Types of Pet Owners" Speech

Early on in the film, Orlando's son walks into Orlando's apartment to find Marina there. He ends up giving a speech along the lines of there are 2 types of pet owners, 1 that own mammals which have a well-developed part of the brain allowing them to feel complex emotions like love, and 1 that own reptiles which don't have this part of the brain and thereby can't feel emotion. What was the point of this speech? Was Orlando's son trying to say that Marina is like a reptile incapable of emotion and thereby loving his father?

I think so. I just saw the movie and there's a lot of 'micro-aggressions' pointed towards Marina throughout the film, equating her as an aberration/perversion. The son also looked like he didn't want Marina to have the dog, and seemed to suggest Marina could not take care of it as well as his family could.

I just saw this movie yesterday. I noticed she was more feminine in the beginning of the movie, but then, when interacting with orlandos family, she became less feminine looking.. Wonder why they filmed it that way. I have a hunch though.
