Labyrinth Connection

In Labyrinth the opening credits feature a CGI owl. The owl is later revealed to be a form of Jareth.

This movie has an owl in the opening scene flying through London. Drosselmeyer has the owl watch Clara for him and it is perhaps implied the owl is his eyes. Similar to how Odin uses Huginn and Muninn.

ok, still not seeing the connection to Labyrinth though...

Both movies start with an owl. The owls are also tied to an older male character who lures the main character into a fantasy world. I wonder if Drosselmeyer may have been included more before the reshoots.

I mean I just think it's kind of a reach to say there's a connection. I doubt it was intentional, just a coincidence. I mean many stories in the past use the same formula of deities or magical entities using animals as watchful vessels protecting the protagonist. To suggest that it's an homage to Labyrinth specifically, is kind of a stretch.

reply

I wasn't saying it's necessairily intentional but it immediately made me think of Labyrinth.

So it’s a pneumonic association, and not a link or connection.

reply

Well spotted. Maybe the writers or producers are fans of the Labyrinth.
