Cried with laughter

It seemed like no one in the theater thought twice about anything in this movie. The film is clearly self aware and a parody of the action genre. Entire scenes are advertisements, the dialogue is mostly metaphor, angles, cuts, acting, every technique just points to an obvious joke of a movie. Do people not realize this?

It's kind of sad. Felt like I was inside of Idiocracy.

10/10

How so? The action scenes were very well done

Some parts of the action I caught myself saying "holy shit" in amazement and I also had the joy of getting to see it in 4dx to enhance those effects. Overall though it's mostly all CGI. No true spectacle in that. Given time, this movie will be looked back on as a joke. Similar movies from the past will always be of more marvel simply because the stunts they did were real. This was just animation.

Do you mean like Furious 7? I was amazed to see Brian running up that collapsing bus was a real stunt. Same with parachuting the cars out of that plane!

reply

That sounds awesome. Never saw it. I do plan on watching more of the series. Seeing real stunts is always impressive.

When Brian was running up that collapsing bus, how did Letty know Brian would be leaping off the bus and on to the hood of her car?

reply

I think there are two reasons:-

1. Letty's car was behind the bus when it crashed on to it's side and skidded over the edge of the cliff.

2. Even although Toyko Drift is the third release in the franchise, it's set after the events of Fast & Furious 6 and therefore directly before this one.

I loved it, but this is where they've been the last few movies. The entire thread of Roman claiming they couldn't be killed in the last movie was practically talking to the audience. Yeah, they know it's batshit crazy, and they want us to know too.

Breaking the 4th wall is too far. A wink and a nod is enough. I hope they don't do this.

reply

I don't think they will - I just remembered your comment on here when I read that article...

Actually, I like how they played with that in F9 - how it looked like Tej was agreeing with him and they were going there then, then they threw it back in our faces.
