Why was American Housewife cancelled?

I really liked the show.
It was weirdly entertaining.

I did not care for the new gay character that becomes best friends with them.
that just seemed so random to me.

But I did feel like the show did give us a series finale.
Maybe the producers knew it was going to get cancelled.
