Critics vs. audience

on rottentomatoes, it's currently "rotten" with a 58% critics score, but on imdb, it has a 9.0 rating. what's wrong here? (i haven't seen the show yet)

reply

Critics score is credible. Of course, the critics are from mainstream magazine, so you know they're clearly very biased when it comes to certain agendas. That means that the score will be heavily inflated if the movie fits some political requirements and reduced if it doesn't.

Audience score has become much more manipulated. Reviews and be written by AI and you wouldn't tell apart from a real one. As a precaution, if we're talking about a movie or series released by a big company, deduce 2-3 points from the 1-10 score.

Taking into account that the series seems to have abandoned the "going the full woke path", but it stills keeps some woke tropes (pakistani Yenefer and some diversity cast), that critics score is probably not too biased. If you deduce 3 points from the 9.0 score you'd had a 6.0, which is close to the critics's one. I think that would be an accurate score.

I didn't even know Yenefer was Indian/Pakistani. She looks white to me. That seems to be a fail.

The token characters utterly made up like that black elf with Ciri is another story.

Yenn is played by a Brit, according to Wikipedia: "Chalotra was born in a British-Indian family. Her father is of Indian descent while her mother is English. She grew up in Lower Penn village in South Staffordshire, UK"

Gotta side with the critics here. 58% a little low though - it's not a bad show, just ordinary.

I read a critic's review that was so savage I decided to skip the show, then a friend persuaded me to give it a try. I'd give it a 5 or 6. Reading comments on Reddit from lovers of the books and/or video games, they seem a little dismayed by the many changes plus the poorly executed timeline juggling, so maybe they'd rate it 6-8. All that's to say I think that "9" is totally bogus. Wait until real people catch up with IMDB, and the number will drop.
