Wtf? A clothing synthesizer?

A clothing synthesis machine in this timeline?

It would be so much more interesting to see the struggles of early space travel then making a prequel that is a rip off of Next Gen without the humour or charm.

How do you think they got the clothes on Next Gen?

Even in TOS they had replicators. Don't you think that being able to replicate clothes would come before replicating food?

reply

Actually I would think they would focus on food first before clothing from a priority survival standpoint.

reply

My thoughts would be that it would be easier to create clothes than food that is edible.

reply

^^^ This. Food is astronomically more complicated than fabric threads.

Did they have replicators on Kirk's time? I don't remember them - but then I haven't watched a full TOS episode since the early 80s.

reply

They did have replicators in TOS. Several scenes had the crew in a break room getting food including coffee and ice cream.

I always wondered why they bothered constructing ships the old fashioned way. Instead of a big orbital spacedock/shipyard, why not build a giant replicator and materialize them whole?
