I agree with the person who said that Orville is more Star Trek (terrible show)

This is terrible, and CBS-All-Access is also terrible.

Haven't brought myself to watch this new series yet as the trailer looked horrid. I have great memories of TNG and so am enjoying Orville very much because it's basically a TNG remake with a little tongue in cheek thrown in. It's just a fun show to watch. Will wait to see how quickly this new start trek series gets cancelled, if it survives one season I might choke it down ;)

"The Orville" is starting to grow on me .... just a little ... since they got Charlize Theron to be on it. ;-)

Cool, it's a "Million Ways to Die in the West" reunion.

Discovery trailers were all utter crap. I'm surprised how much better discovery ended up being than what was suggested by its trailers.

I wish I knew which moron made those trailers - I get that you don't want to give the story away, but you should also try not to make it seem so crappy, especially when the TV series is actually pretty remarkable.

I have not been able to watch either show, I have had CBS All Access before even if I really wanted to see ST:D I would not pay for All Access to see it. But from reading reviews alone, it seems it comes down to Orville while a comedy has the spirit of Star Trek running through it, it could with a few tweaks be dropped right into the Star Trek universe. Star Trek Discovery is an action sci-fi show using the Star Trek name, because of the setting of the show and its appearance it feels out of place with the rest of the Universe, neither fitting entirely in JJ universe nor the original timeline.

Now my final thoughts will come when I actually sit to watch both shows, but that's the impression I am geting from some of the more believable reviews.

Orville is more episodic, making it seem more similar to older ST shows, but all in all, both shows are quite different from a regular ST show.

I prefer discovery because there's more tension and it is by far more serious. I'd also say that while discovery is different, it has the best start of any ST shows I've seen. I also dig the season-long story arc - my favorite shows mostly feature season-long story arcs. More importantly, the writing in discovery actually seems legit - which is more than I can say about most of the TV series on right now - except for game of thrones.

I might change my mind if orville ever gets really funny or really serious. Right now its writing isn't particularly great.

I think if you are looking for classic Star Trek go with The Orville but if you are more of a fan of JJ Abraham take on Star Trek go with Discovery. Personally I am bloody sick and tiered of so called "Dark" shows were everything has to be depressing and gritty so The Orville to me is like a really nice trow back to when TV was still optimistic. For this reason I prefer the Orville, I watched the 4 episode of Discovery and I am already starting to feel tiered of it, I prefer the more episodic nature of classic star trek were you can pick up any episodes without feeling lost. I do not think I am going to keep watching Discovery, it is very slow paced..We are the 4th episodes and we still have not met the entire crew yet...

I agree with you there, plus JJ Abrams is not dark, he is a moron. I could tell from the lead off the new Star Trek series that it was going to be garbage. There is no real vision there, just exploitation.
