Is it worth watching?

I started watching this, because someone I once worked with is in season 3. I am on season 1 episode 6 right now and it is kind of a slog. I heard that season 2 is pretty bad. Should I just give up on it and watch my old buddy in season 3 or should I stick it out?

reply

I really love it, but I loved it from basically the first episode. If you're not digging it six episodes in, I think that's probably a sign you aren't going to like it. Maybe just skip to the episode he's in and use plot synopses to fill you in on the gaps?

reply

He's in all of season 3, so that is why I wanted to watch it. If he was only in one episode then I would just watch that episode and forget the rest. I just really want to see him, because he is a very good actor.

reply

Well, you still might read a synopsis and throw on season three. Skip to just his scenes? Or give it one more go? I don't know what to tell you.

Who does your friend play?

reply

Ben Davis

reply

He is really good in it. The first episode of season three has his best stuff in it (thusfar).

reply

Something to look forward to then. Season 1 is getting a little better, but is season 2 as bad as people say? Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing Tom in season 3. I had no doubt that he would be really good on the show.

reply

I liked season two just fine. I didn't notice a change in quality. I haven't really heard anything because I just started watching the show recently, so I was avoiding spoilers. So I don't know what people are saying, but season two was, I'd say, just as good as one.

reply

Very good. I am going to stick with it anyhow.

reply

This is the kind of show that you can jump into at any point. They design series like that, like the throw in multiple explanations of things that are important throughout the series for people follow the shows lightly. I sometimes use this trick to decide if I want to watch a series or not. I movie to the middle of the series, pick an episode and random and then fast-forward to a a random spot and begin watching and see if it interests me, if I like the characters, or the plot, etc.

reply

Okay, if you are familiar with brux from other message boards, s/he is really not to be listened to. The above statement being yet one more illustration.

reply

I have heard of brux, but not sure if they are one of the people who said season 2 was horrible.

reply

Brux doesn't like this show on the whole, not sure why they are hanging around here.

Either way, what they said above is so preposterous, that it says all you need to know right there.

And no, season 2 wasn't "horrible" - only someone completely incapable of appreciating art could say something like that. This is a highly acclaimed series, and deservedly so.

reply

Who says season 2 is bad??
Ozark is one of the highest quality shows out there!

Could you not appreciate Breaking Bad, either?..

reply

Breaking Bad is the best series ever imo. I had heard several people say that season 2 was not very good. I will see if they were right, since I want to see my old buddy play Ben in season 3. That is why I really stated to watch it recently.

reply

Breaking Bad is a top-notch show for me. Right up there with Mad Men.

reply

Yes, Mad Men was a great show also. AMC had quite a few winning programs back then, but now I really don't watch anything on AMC anymore. They got greedy and cheap.

reply

Well, I find Ozark to be quite similar to Breaking Bad, and the acting on the show is superb.

Tom Pelphrey gave a stellar performance, I would be surprised if he doesn't win all the guest star awards.

reply

Really? I find Breaking Bad and Ozark to be very different is some ways. Breaking Bad had so many WTF moments, while I find Ozark to be more of a slow burn. Of course the drug element is there in both, but Breaking Bad was much more binge worthy. Either way, I am still going to get through it. I am almost done watching season 1, so I am getting closer to seeing season 3 with every watch.

reply

I streamed the first reason because I could watch it all at once. It did become a slog, and nothing but more of the same violence. Worth watching. That depends. If you are starving for a way to kill time, it works. If you are looking for an amazing series that works on multiple levels and has a point ... not really. The first season hooked me in because of the way to first episode started ... and I feel like a sucker for that.
