Why it’s called Ozark and not Ozarks?

I know it’s not a big deal, but it kinda bothers me and I always wanna say Ozarks instead of Ozark when I tell someone about this show.

Well it’s Lake Ozark

it's actually not, though

reply

Oh, I guess the city is Lake Ozark.

I understand completely I had cousins that grew up in the Ozarks and no one ever said lets to Ozark, the area was always referred to as the Ozarks. If anyone said they were going to Ozark then the question would have been asked of do you mean Ozark Arkansas or Ozark Missouri, because the word with no s would have only meant one of those two small towns. I suspect it is the result of the writer not actually having lived in the area and only deciding to use it as a place with no real understanding of what it is.

They were spitballing the title and when they came to it, they said, we don't want people googling the show and getting the tourism bureau, so the name was born.

it's named after the Ozark Mountain Range, notice there is no "s"

So, I was just looking at Google Maps to see what it is called (Lake of the Ozarks, but there is a town on it called Lake Ozark) and I noticed there is a place called, "Big Dick's Halfway Inn."
