everyone got up clapping, yelling and whistling as the credits rolled. Even saw a few men high 5 each other...it's clear folks, Shyamalan is back. Start remembering how to pronounce his name again because we could soon see him at the oscars.

shareLos Angeles, CA...right in the heart of show biz and people (like me) who know what a good movie is....my fingers were in my mouth as I whistled.

Personally, I think it's a bit overrated and the ending was a bit pretentious and masturbatory. I found all the plot devices and foreshadowing a bit heavy handed throughout the film; such as the mind-over-matter theme and the protagonist being some idiot savant psychologist that refused to fight back early in the film. A 5'7" 145lb man is not intimidating. If properly planned, 3 able-bodied women would be able to overtake him.
Meanwhile, the real psychologist is incompetent and complicit.
I think M Night saw the success of the small films like 10 Cloverfield and Don't Breathe; and made his 10M version knowing he had a built-in fan base.

I clap at the end of good movies even if I'm watching them in my home by myself, it's fun. I do the same when I get past a hard part in a game or finish the game.
shareI think it's just mainly American audiences that clap etc because I have never ever seen anyone clap in Australia or anywhere in Europe.
