We know that he is playing a CIA agent named August Walker, working with Angela Basset's character. Cruise said that he'll be playing an antagonist, but would differ from Lane, who will be coming back. It can go one way or the other, Cavill could be an agent who would be similar to Karl Urban's character in Red (and Hobbs in the "Fast" movies) as he is against Ethan Hunt at first but then teams up with him or more likely he could be an agent who turns out to be a sleeper agent (similar to Dougray Scott in MI2 and Billy Crudup in MI3).

He plays the agent who seduces Hunt, as happened to Bond in Skyfall...

I myself expect him to team up with Ethan later on, but like you said it could go either way. The guy has this sleazy look to him after all, haha. He seems to be an agent who will do whatever it takes to accomplish a mission (even if that means he has to get extra dirty).

I’m always up for a nice twist.

He seems like a morally ambiguous character. His line in the trailer suggests he's just a professional doing his job. Wonder if Lane offers him more dough and he becomes a full on villain?
