Starz Cancels Counterpart, fucks up another great series

https://tvline.com/2019/02/11/counterpart-cancelled-starz-no-season-3/

As usual they can't promote shit and it ends up in the can.

Hope another service picks it up, they have material for a third season.

reply

I was really surprised and sad that they cancelled this. It had great reviews, even 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. I guess they weren't getting ratings for it? A great show, a unique setting and premise and excellent acting. I also hope someone picks it up and continues it.

reply

Another brilliant show that get cancelled because dumb viewers prefer stupid reality shows...

reply

While I agree that our species seems to get dumber with each passing second, I’d ascribe the lack of picking up a third season (which I prefer to “canceling”) of the series to STARZ being an asinine network that did not do Thing One to promomite this excellent, low-budget (compared to, say, American Gods or Game of Thrones) treasure. No hype, no streaming-service (e.g., Netflix) exposure?! Troglodyte audiences need prodding! They lack both taste and intellectual curiosity. They need seduction to draw them to the right conclusion. STARZ ignored this precious gem.

I am elaborating on what Captain Obvious has already said. Mine is not an original thought; but I want to say to the Captain that yesterday he made a post about another poster who could be put in a dumpster and not be missed that made me a friend of his. I don’t forget my friends who speak up for my other friends.

Unbelievable.

I just watched episode 10 (not fully) today and seeing Howard kick so much ass by killing all those virus filled teens. Sucks that this awesome show is cancelled. Now we'll never know how they'll take down Mira and her leftover gang or how Howard prime will cope with his loneliness or how Howard kick ass will reconcile with his wife. Sigh...

reply

My friend, Mira’s dead. Their Emily killed her with poison. Score one for the good guys. As for the rest, I share your curiosity and hopes. I don’t think that Counterpart skipped a beat or missed a step in 20 hours of programming, and that it has been criminally neglected by entertainment industry decision-makers.

I am very glad that you enjoyed it. We rarely cross paths, but I’ve always respected your posts. And the fact that you stay off the awful General Discussion area.

reply

Yeah I didn't watch it fully to the end yet, spoke too soon. Why is the Howard that kicks ass the Prime version? I thought it was the other way around since we were introduced to the coward one first, no?

I only venture into the general discussion if I had something to post about there but it's extremely rare. I mostly just check the trending topics on MC to see what's happening then move on. I don't post as much as others do but I like to participate when I got the time to. I usually only engage in movies/tv shows that I have seen or am currently watching (along with the *cough* Trump thread). I feel the same way about you as well. :)

reply

You are right. Howard Prime is Our Howard, but he is still becoming an Alpha male, and that probably confuses some posters. I call Their Howard, the one who laid the Blitzkrieg Bop on the flu-schleppers, Hard-Hearted Howard. Our Howard is nurturing, giving and forgiving. He has a different kind of strength: emotional intelligence. It is easy to feel both bad and sympathetic for both characters. One of the things that I think is inspired about Counterpart is how each Howard gradually adopts the qualities of his counterpart. The series has firmly addressed the importance of nurture (personal experience) in character development. Imprisoned and tortured on Their side, Our Howard has perforce been strengthened. “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” We both want to see this story play out.

Their Emily left a poisoned tack on the light switch in Mira’s flat. Bring the ep up on demand. Knowing how it goes won’t really dilute your savoring of that thunderbitch’s demise. (Tip o’ the hat to Blade 3 for the edited adjectival nomenclature.)

I am impressed by the number of posters who have embraced Counterpart. I thought that I was pretty much alone. Thank you all.

EDIT Thank you, Rorikon. I think this place would benefit from some more mutual respect.

Yes, this is/was a great show! I hope Starz has a change of mind, or someone else picks it up.

reply

Not only canceled, but disappeared from their app and most cable systems OnDemand, for unknown reasons as of yet

reply

Marty, I’m easily having access to all episodes of Counterpart on Comcast/Xfinity. I hope that you do, too.

reply

You are the lucky exception then... my cable system [spectrum nyc] removed too many episodes to make rewatching impossible and most other cable systems have angry customers because the series was dropped while people didn't finish the series. But the worst is Starz dropping it from their app leading to the same complaints from customers meanwhile Starz still has 10 year old shoes on their app

reply

Marty, you’re right. I still had On-Demand access when I made my previous post. I just checked now, and I have the privilege of BUYING every episode of Season 1, and Season 2 is entirely gone—even though I am a STARZ subscriber! Unbelievable. STARZ really disowns this show! They obviously want it to go away and be forgotten as quickly as possible. I hope that means they’ve been hammered by angry howls from those of us who know something wonderful when we see it, realize that STARZ has shot itself in the crotch, and just want to sweep this incompetent botched opportunity under the rug. Disgusting and contemptible. Meanwhile, I can still watch 9-year-old Pillars of the Earth, which tanked after 1 season, and 8-year-old Camelot, which also died after 1 season.

reply

I saw season 1 on disc from Netflix then had to purchase season 2 from Amazon streaming. Netflix doesn't have season 2 yet and Amazon has both seasons streaming for sale. I've already started watching season 1 again, it's just so good and I'm still in such shock it's been discontinued!

reply

I only watched half of the first season, which I really enjoyed but could not finish the season because I got really busy. I now have the second half of the first season and the second season sitting on my DVR with quite a few other movies and series. I know it's cancelled, and while I don't want to know how it ended, did it end with a cliffhanger? I am trying to make space on my DVR and I don't want to invest time in watching a series only to be frustrated in the end, because I find cliffhangers so very annoying.

reply

You won’t be frustrated.

Thanks!

Most welcome. Savor it!
