How bad is it?

At first I was looking forward to this film. Especially seeing that the Indonesian martial artist Iko Uwais is in it. Mark Wahlberg is also a cool dude. But I've heard people absolutely tear this film to shreds, saying how awful it was. It's seriously received a lot of negative feedback. And plus, what's this I'm hearing about 'bad editing'? I mean, seriously, for a film to contain bad editing nowadays, that's a really telling sign that the film must be astoundingly bad. Is it worth a watch? Should I even waste my time? And also, is Iko Uwais's scenes anywhere on par with The Raid films?

Absolutely terrible film. If you watch it for Iko, you'll be in for disappointment. Just go and re watch The Raid instead as he is wasted in this. As for the bad editing, it suffers from the 'each scene needs to be made up from a million cuts'. It just doesn't flow and whoever is responsible needs to go back to film making school. To be honest, I wouldn't bother watching it.

Alright. You just confirmed it for me. I'm not watching it.

It's not awful but it's not great either, just meh. Instead of been a straight out actioner, it wanted to be too smart for it's own good. Should have been just Wahlberg and Uwais both working for the same side, they don't get along at the start but as the shit goes down with them protecting a important key witness as their team is slaughtered they need to team up and just have balls to the wall action. Sure it's simple but a lot of the great action films are.

Nope, they wanted to be deadly serious. The worse thing is they have a great talent in Uwais, who showed he could do a awesome fight and action in the Raid films. Instead they chop and edit during his fights, that was the moment the film lost me. That ending, the sheer arrogance that they think they get a sequel out of this mess. Peter Berg has done some good films and this wasn't one of them.

It’s above par for action movies generally and way above par for what passes for made-for-streaming services movies.

It’s not an Iko Uwais focused film but he has two good fight scenes.
