The snap....

The snap to bring everyone back is bothering me, I just can't wrap my head around 3 billion people reappearing after being gone for 5 years. The United States we saw in this movie was in shambles. The streets were filled with clutter and junked cars, houses looked dilapidated. What if the bank foreclosed on your house in those 5 years?

What if you were married and your wife got snapped, then all of the sudden she's back after 5 years and you've remarried already. This would be terrible and likely would be happening all over the place. What if you've lost your job and your life is a wreck as most peoples probably were. Not to mention the resources to sustain an increase in population like that.

I just can't believe they did it like that. With no explanation or anything, I guess we will see in far from home.

No, it'd be chaos. Not just spouses appearing after their widows and widowers had remarried, but jobs being given to someone else, houses abandoned and foreclosed on, companies shutting down for lack of labor and jobs vanishing, people coming back to find the loved ones they left behind are now dead or destitute, the world's food production would have dropped by half so there would be famine if the population suddenly doubled, etc.

It'd be a nightmare, and IMHO the filmmakers were right to show none of it and pretend everything just went back to normal. It's a fantasy film after all.

And all for what? So Tony Stark gets to keep his family alive and his daughter :D.
They could have snapped their timeline back to 5 years ago and erase Thanos at the same time.

reply

Yeah, that was remiss of him.

Not to mention all the people who died directly as a result of others being snapped away. Like passengers of an airplane midflight, or patients in OR, or people near Nuclear plants and Dams, people in cars, busses, trains, everything moving w/o a driver. Do they get to come back? i bet not.

reply

Yeah, imagine coming back after five years, and being told "Oh, your spouse and kids are all dead, because you were driving them on the freeway when you vanished"!

Really, you can't just take away half the world's population for five years without making an unholy mess. Better to leave them gone.

All interesting questions. But it does seem the US, at least, had mostly recovered. Hulk met Cap and Iron Man at a restaurant eating ice cream. Kids came up to him to ask for his autograph.

I'm sure many things still needed to be done and everything wasn't peachy-keen. But things had obviously gotten better.
