One hero was missing...

...the robotic dude who had the yellow Infinity Stone in his forehead, and was killed by Thanos when he ripped it out. Where was he?

Half the Avengers were dead at the start of the movie, didn't stop THEM coming back with Hulk's finger snap.

reply

But none of them required an Infinity Stone in their heads linked to their conciousness, and that stone was destroyed by Thanos after the snap.

reply

All the stones were destroyed, but they all came back.

reply

Nope.

All the stones were destroyed.

They went back in time to get the stones before they were destroyed, but once they were used, they had to take them back to the exact time they were taken and return them.

That means there was no Mind Stone to give back to Vision.

reply

Oh, OK.

True, but unlike the deaths undone by the snap, the other deaths have to be permanent, so Vision stays dead so that Scarlett Witch can become a stronger character.

It was because of Visions death which helped turn her into an absolute badass during the battle, she almost destroyed Thanos on her own.

It seems the only lives that could be brought back were those destroyed by the snap. That's why Loki, Heimdall, Vision, Gamora, and Black Widow remain dead. It's also why someone couldn't slip on the gauntlet and bring Iron Man back to life.

In the case of Gamora and Black Widow, they are specifically gone forever because their deaths were sacrifices in order to obtain the Soul Stone, and part of the deal is that there is no undoing those sacrifices.

The others-- not entirely clear. It seems to me that if the Infinity Stones have the power to kill and resurrect lives, and are considered to be foundational, core powers of the universe itself, someone ought to be able to use them to resurrect anyone. On the other hand, death may entail a journey beyond the boundaries of the universe, and thus be beyond the scope of the stones, so yes, in a way it does make sense that a "real" death is irreversible, while a "stone" death isn't.

Bottom line, it's a comic book movie. You more or less have to accept the rules they give you, and as long as they don't deviate from what has been put forth as "the way it is," suspend your disbelief and enjoy.

I don't think Gamora will stay dead. Seems Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will centre around looking for her.

Which is why the Gamora from the past had to die so that the one from our timeline still gets to live.

As far as i'm aware, Gamora is in the soul stone. How that affects Black Widow I have no clue.

reply

Did past Gamora die? I don't remember that.

reply

I'm assuming she does, because when the rest of the Guardians and Thor were on the Benatar at the end, it showed a viewscreen from behind with a picture of Gamora and the word "Searching" underneath it.

Nebula was with them but no Gamora, so i'm assuming she died in the snap, which is odd as its clear that past Gamora was now on the good guys side, but the last time we saw her was when she kicked Quill in the bollocks.

reply

Past Gamora is still alive in the present and they were going searching for her at the end. They weren't sure where she went or what became of her. But I'm betting she's out there .
She kicked Quill because she didn't know him yet. Of course she sometimes was capable of kicking or hitting him even after they were acquainted.

reply

I know why she kicked him, i'm just pointing out the last time we saw her.

reply

"The robotic dude". I can tell you're a big fan.

reply

Iron Man could only undo “the snap”.

Vision was killed by Thanos beforehand.

Besides which, nobody knew if he’d function without the Mind Stone. According to Shuri, separating him from it while retaining his memory was a complex task.
