Pretty good Christmas horror with a lot of laughs

Ridiculous (in the best way) comedy/horror that plays out like a dark flipside of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! Stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, and David Koechner. It's a Gremlins-ish throwback to 80s horror, with mostly practical effects, including an in-suit performance for Krampus (who looks really impressive, from when we first glimpse him in the shadows and half-light, right through to the full reveal). Despite it being a comedy, it gets pretty tense in places. At times the 'group under seige', cut-off by a snowstorm had an almost 30 Days of Night feel. But before long sheer lunacy rears its head again. Twenty minutes from the end I was pretty sure where it was leading... only to (happily) find I was wrong! Fun Movie. 7/10

Its actually my families new favorite Christmas viewing tradition. This movie is fantastic.

I might save this for Christmas night.

It's great! Fyi, not for little kids, probably 12ish or over. There is some frightening imagery to a kid.

THAT'S FINE...SAMJOE ISN'T LEGALLY ALLOWED WITHIN 100 YARDS OF A MINOR ANYWAY.

I'm watching it by myself because 1. I like watching movies by myself without interruptions, and 2. I'm a loner.

I understand. I have a family, yet I prefer watching movies by myself, in the theater and at home too.

reply

I agree. It has some touches of true horror elements, but they immediately get followed up with a light comedy beat, so it never feels heavy and stays fun the entire time.

If you have cable TV with FXM (FX Movies), it is available On Demand through January 2022. It has been aired many times on the FXM channel in the last week or two.
