Not Happening

So it seems Disney has officially shelved this project.. Will Kevin Feige/Marvel ever actually make a Gambit movie? Seemed like Fox never really wanted to make a Gambit movie. I guess Gambit's small pointless cameo in Wolverine Origins is all we will get for some time..

Is Gambit's participation on Origins considered a cameo?

GAMBIT WAS MY FAVORITE MUTANT GROWING UP...I HAVE ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT A MOVIE VERSION NOT BEING A LOUD MESS.BETWEEN THE COSTUME,THE ORIGIN,THE ACCENT...OH AND CHANNING F@#KING TATUM.THIS IS FOR THE BEST.

Gambit has been my favorite character since growing up watching the 90s cartoon. That bled over into comics as I got older. He really has an interesting backstory and there could be a great movie in there with all the stories he's been involved in throughout the years. That being said... I don't see the need for a Gambit movie. He is a character that just isn't high profile enough. Wolverine gets solo movies, and really that's it when it comes to X-Men.

I didn’t expect it to take off after all this time. This was supposed to come out 4 years ago, and it was without question going nowhere. And tbh I was open to the idea of this film... yet I would be lying if I said I felt overly optimistic about it.

Tatum as Gambit? That wasn’t so much of an issue for me. Hell, I believe he might have done a solid job in the role, especially since he seemed to be highly passionate about this project. The issue is, it’s SUPER easy to imagine Fox dropping the ball on it. They could’ve *potentially* had another Deadpool or Logan on their hands, but I doubt that. I think this would’ve been a tricky character for them to pull off - particularly in a solo film. And let’s face it, had it gotten made and turned out great, ultimately (probably) this is a film that the end of the day would have been considered pointless.

At any rate, Gambit’s expected cancellation is for the best. Along with the several X-Men that were either underutilized or not given the treatment they deserved in the Fox X-Men franchise (Cyclops), Gambit deserves to be done justice on screen. Now that he and his fellow Mutants are in extremely good hands, to me it does not matter whether he’s introduced in an ensemble X-Men film or solo film (love Gambit but I would argue a solo film isn’t necessary). I only wish to see the character shine like he should.
