Samuel Jackson instead of Laurence Fishburne

I gave this movie a chance on Netflix. As I was watching, I kept thinking Samuel Jackson should have played the role of the hitman, as the dialogue was written for his style. If you watch the movie with your eyes closed, you will hear it's Samuel Jackson talking and shouting. The movie itself would be much better if Samuel was actually cast for this film. I'm sure they're best friends so Samuel probably helped Laurence with delivery. Jane did a good job. So did the little girl. I think they took this job to past the time waiting for the next big project. One setting. Three characters. One week shoot.

That is too funny. My wife and I play a game when we watch a movie where we 're-cast' it with either alternate actors who have a similar style, or -- in the case of lesser known movies -- with the A-listers who would do a better job of it in the particular role.

Totally agree with you. I too thought that Fishburne was channeling Samual Jackson.

As for Thomas Jane -- who I like BTW -- his delivery style reminded me of Matthew McConaughey at times.

Your "sure" they are best friends? Why, because they are both big, black A list actors?

reply

one time on seth Meyers, Jackson mentioned being friendly with him, morgan freeman, denzel, and Wesley snipes in the 80s.

reply

Yeah Lawrence sounded so much like Sam L in this(the parts where he shouts)...funny thing is if Sam played the role this would have went to the theaters and probably would have been a hit.

Sam Jackson is a popular "black guy" character actor for supporting/co star roles in major films but has never been a major draw as a leading man. He actually played a similar role role several years back with Luke Wilson. I'm pretty sure that was a straight to dvd thriller that went largely unnoticed.

As i was typing that i was thinking of naming a bigger star to play the Good Guy role in this...I agree It would need a bigger star to go to the theaters and be a hit.

reply

Yeah, when he had the wife at gun point and was yelling with the mask on, I thought he sounded exactly like Samuel L. Jackson.

reply

That would have been pretty awesome as well!
