Who else thought she was legit?

The way she played with their daughter, the way she interacted with Max, it all seemed so real. I had been thinking it was all just some sort of test.

In what was a real shitty turn of events, some spoiled for me the fact that she was actually a spy so I already knew going into the movie.

But having now seen it, it seems obvious that by the end she was trying to get away from her old self and make her life with Pitt's character real. I think she really loved him and her family and just wanted to live out the rest of days peacefully with them.

Like she kept saying, "the emotions are real" - I agree that she really wanted to just be with him and have a family, but I guess sometimes you can't avoid your past

Yeah, the impression I got was that she was hoping her life as a spy would just go away and she would just be forgotten about by Germany. But of course that didn't happen and she was compelled to go back to her old life. In the end, when they were trying to flee, she was really hoping they could get away and start a new life together. The way it ends is just painful.

But I really need to watch it again. Frankly, the first time around I was pretty intoxicated so it's possible I could've missed some important details.

Good movie, though.

I was leaning towards her being a spy, but I wasn't 100% sure. When I first saw it those few moments where she was sitting at the piano were a great scene.

I thought something was up when she had the baby and she said something like, "This is the real me." I think she was telling her husband that her joy was for once authentic. Maybe? That made me wonder why that line was in there. Maybe to foreshadow her betrayal?

I think she did love both the daughter and Max, remember what she said to Max when she was giving birth?

But I did wonder if it was a misdirection, that she could be innocent and someone else close to them was the spy. That she will die or Max's dies for her only to be revealed that she was innocent all along.

I liked this film a lot surprised by the low rating, it should be higher.

Agree. Despite the big name actors and being a decent movie, it didn't get much promotion. Not sure why, perhaps there was a lot of competition when it was released. Wasn't Rogue One released around the same time?

reply

I'm not sure but I certainly contributed to it. I saw Rogue One 2-x in the theatre whereas I never bothered to watch Allied in the cinemas.

Hmm I watched this last night after everyone I know hyped it up and saw it at the cinemas. I didn't think the possibility that Max was being tested until they brought it up during the party. And then I started questioning my initial thoughts that she was a German spy. What made me suspicious of her as a German spy was her remarks to Max at the kitchen table when they started talking about sex. She says that it's not sex that's the problem, but feeling. It was then that I wished Max had asked her, "Well what's the difference?!" because imo having sex, or as she put it, "fucking" is feeling. There's no way that you're not going to feel something for the other person you make love to. And then when they did end up having sex in the car during the sandstorm I figured, yeah she's gotta be a "honey trap." Later on after they married when she was in labor she remarked, "This is the real me" and this also raised flags in my eyes as I thought to myself if this is the real her then does that mean she's been pretending to be someone else all this time?!
