I just lost most of the faith I had in this movie.

I was revealed today that the focus of the movie would be centered around Elasticgirl while Bob Parr is gonna sit around at home to watch the kids. Not only does this seem like some crazy third wave feminism on par with the Ghostbusters reboot, but it's also unfaithful towards the central point of the original. Which is that family comes first and a family is stronger together and not when divided from one another.

After 14 years of waiting, this really hurts. Fuck off, Pixar.

Nice strawman.

Saw it yesterday, and it wasn't a feminist screed. Without giving away too much, the mom is recruited to do some publicity heroism, while Dad unhappily stays home with the kids. But soon what's going on at home is just as important as what Elastic Girl is doing, and in the end it's the family coming together that saves the day.

This is more on par with 1st and 2nd wave femanisim. 3rd wave feminists woulden't even have the father around. I agree the film did have some femanist overtones its being done rationaly. The father steps aside of his own valition as he knows superheros need a more public friendly face then that of a soldier at the time when superheros need better marketing. He knows his time will come but rationally concludes its best for him to stay at home. IE he isn't defeated the way men are in actual feminist films. The plot is set up fairly that we all know he's doing the right thing by temporaliy staying at home. You do have to admit that the conclusion of this film is that the family is strongest when their togeter which is exactly what happenes just before the 3rd act. IE divided the family still failed. IE individually every one failed and it wasn't till the kids got involved (the whole family got involved) that they were able to turn the tides.

In a real feminist film the woman would never have been defeated by the enemy (elastigirl was caputred followed by mr incredible who ventured on his own to resucure her). and the male would have been portrayed as a nimrod. mr Incredible while being a strong male character still has a heart for whats right and wrong and exhibits rational thought in his actions. Don't get me wrong he knows when its time to fight, and knows his capabilities, but he's not a hot head. He still plays a strong male lead.

I know feminism has totally borked a lot of hollywood movies, but that is not the case here.
