I don't think it is because of him. This is a musical, a remake of a 60 year old film, has no big stars in it, and is over 2 and a half hours. This was never going to be a hit, Ansel or no Ansel.

Trying to cancel Ansel because of a tweet. Ansel did fine, though I much preferred when he was singing and dancing rather than acting. WSS is a triumph for everyone involved and I don't care about its box office. A steaming pile of horseshit like Spiderman No way Home will no doubt make bank this weekend, but this wouldnt be the first time a lousy movie makes a lot more than a deserving one. One of these films will still be discussed in 50 years. Hint---it won't be Spiderman.

shareLong story short ... the guy was accused of sexually assaulting a woman -- who told her story on Twitter, and then deleted it -- who claims she was 17 when she had sex with him in 2014. She alleges she felt violated afterward, and went on to say she suffers from PTSD. Ansel denied her characterization in a since-deleted message -- insisting it was consensual.
Other women have come forward with claims against him as well, alleging he was predatory and soliciting minors before he was uber famous -- but he hasn't addressed those specifically.
Nah, it's cause he was White and this is 2021, NO WHITIES ALLOWED! West Side Story should've been Woke Side Story re-imagined with a Black actor playing as Ansel (Asians excluded).
Seems it was that racial slur that Senor Spielbergo & co used during promotions that did it.
