What went wrong with the Flash TV series?

Iris West: Thanks to the writers I can honestly say that Candace Patton’s character Iris has got to be the most annoying character on TV right now. Even at the beginning the over forced romance between Barry & Iris who are like brother & sister living under the same roof who grew up together was just so over the top ridiculous and flat out stupid. And quite frankly I don’t see what the big attraction Barry had towards Iris considering they had absolutely nothing in common, she was all hung up on Eddie Thawne and even when he confessed his feelings to her she rejected him not once but twice in season 1. Quite frankly she just comes off as being a total, self centered, whiney brat.
All about Iris and hardly about Barry: You know for a show that’s suppose to be about Barry Allen aka the Flash the writers seem to think it’s necessary to keep having him take a backseat to Iris just because they think she’s far more worthy to be in the spotlight and that she’s a far more interesting character that has to be the center of attention like 90 percent of every single episode and yet all she does is bring nothing but pure boredom to the show and it’s obvious most fans of the show just flat out hate her due to her extremely irritating & obnoxious personality. I swear by season 4 the show went from being The Flash to pretty much looking like it should be renamed Iris & Friends.
Iris as Team Leader: Out of all the very many flaws the writers made this one just comes off as being the most cringeworthy because it doesn’t make one bit of logical sense how Iris can go from being the absent minded reporter/journalist who doesn’t know anything about science to suddenly being leader of Team Flash in season 4 and is able to outthink Barry, Cisco, Caitlin & Wells WHEN THEY’RE SUPPOSE TO BE THE SCIENTISTS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. Yeah talk about bad writing.
Flashpoint: Yeah the Flashpoint storyline just came off as being a huge letdown especially since it only lasted no more than one episode and while the rest of season 3 was dealing with the after effects of Barry changing the timeline it just wasn’t at all entertaining as I thought it was gonna be since I thought it was gonna last the whole season.
Saving Iris: Once season 3 went from Flashpoint to Barry you screwed up the timeline to Saving Iris pretty much the whole second half it just completely ruined the whole season for me. Worst part about it is that I wish Savitar had succeeded in killing Iris and that Barry had stuck with Patty Spivot instead but unfortunately Savitar failed and Patty got completely written out of the show.
Wally West: While Wally West is by far one of the most entertaining characters in DC Comics on the show though he just came off as being boring, undeveloped and completely useless. Plus for him and Barry to be about the exact same age and for him to be called Kid Flash when he wasn’t really a kid was just plain dumb so introducing a character like him into the show when Barry is still in the process of learning his powers was just way too soon.
Jesse Quick: Just like Wally West Jesse Quick was also very underdeveloped and was introduced way too soon and didn’t really do much at all even after getting her superspeed. Plus the whole romance between her & Wally was just so flat out boring and didn’t really add anything to the show.
Julian Albert: Tom Felton’s character in season 3 may have started off entertaining when he was Alchemy but as soon as he broke free of Savitar’s control he pretty much became another very underdeveloped boring character on the show that needed to be written out.
Ralph Dibny: Unlike the Ralph Dibny aka Elongated Man in the comics the one in the TV show also was a very boring character that got introduced way too soon and just came off as being too much like Jim Carrey’s The Mask with his extremely over forced comedy and over the top cheesy dialogue. Plus due to the fact that all he did was annoy the Heck out of everyone on Team Flash just goes to show that he didn't really contribute much to the show accept prove that Iris isn’t the only one capable of being extremely irritating.
Cecile Horton: Joe West’s girlfriend may be a defense attorney who was Barry’s defense in The Trial of The Flash but aside from that she also comes off as being an extremely boring character who like Iris was just getting way too much spotlight. Add to the fact that they gave her a metahuman ability to read people’s minds and suddenly she’s FAR more popular than Barry just makes me wish they’d go and completely write her off the show because seriously this show doesn't need yet another extremely annoying dame who has to be the center of attention. Iris has done enough of that already.

TLDR

The show is fine, the best superhero show on TV right now. Iris and Barry was creepy in season 1, but we're over that by now.

TLDR however as a casual viewer it went wrong in the same way as most Superhero series. Too many characters and they all have to have a super power.

Oh and too many characters who have alter egos.

I think it was when it was greenlit by the CW.

Where it went wrong? How they handled Flash Point. How they handled Tom Cavanaugh (council of Harry anyone?). How they handled Killer Frost. How they handled Wally West. How they handled Captain Cold. How they handled Nora. How they continue to abuse comedy. How they handle pep talks or their Full House moments. How they handle their share of CW soap opera nonsense. How they handled Elongated man. I could go on but I'll stop here.

How they handled Iris is their worst offense. Just as bad as Felicity Smoak.
