Kate Winslet & period looks

Winslet was beautiful in this... that figure, the way the dresses wrap around her curves... Something that is severely missing in movies set in contemporary times...

I do have one issue and that is how the film was shot... It seemed too harsh in some instances, over-lit throughout and not sensual enough...

Maybe if it was shot on film or lit to be kinder to skin, or lit to accentuate some of the depth and curves in particular scenes rather than keeping the bright comedy lighting throughout... Also they could have used some camera movements or compositions to accentuate those dresses further...

Am I on to something, or is this straying into "male-gaze" territory?

Kate Winslet has always been a good looking woman. But it's been a long time since I think she had a role that celebrated her beauty and permitted her to wear glamorous costumes to compliment her figure. It's okay to look sometimes.

I've always liked Kate in her films, and while she's never been model thin, in this one she seemed somewhat broad in the beam, and showing plump arms in her sleeveless tops. I hope she's not going to fat, or she'll risk having to play Shelley Winters roles in future.

Contemporary Hollywood rejects classical female beauty... it's ideological...
