Yeah, you read right. And why not, because who are we kidding. It's like all other horror franchises. Even if they try to end it, another way to resurrect it will always be in the pipeline.

Honestly, I think in regards to Sam and Tara. They could explain them away like Sidney in 6. They've gone into hiding. Short and simple and sweet. The writers know that the less they say now, the less they'll be painted into a corner later. So they can do 7 without them. And then in a few years maybe, the studio and Melissa Barrera can come to peace, and Jenna Ortega can find the time, and we catch up with those characters down the road. Just like we presumably/hopefully will with Sidney in 7.

In Scream 8 the killer turns out to be the father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate of the man who served Sidney Prescott a hamburger on a bus stop during her 3rd grade field trip to the sea aquarium's starfish petting zoo. He couldn't let it go that she asked for mayonnaise with her fries instead of ketchup.

Sam and Tara will most likely be back. I think they're gonna pull what Disney pulled with James Gunn.

Damn, I hadn't heard about that.

I think maybe they all need more time for the dust to settle. I think Disney and Gunn waited over a year before announcing that he was back, or that he was never actually off the project. I suspect something similar might be happening with Barrera; it could all be a smoke and mirrors PR stunt to avoid too much backlash, suggesting that she's still unofficially on board for Scream 8.

That's all just speculation, maybe even some wishful thinking on my part, though. I can't back it up with anything.

Yeah. It sounds like you researched it so I won't overexplain it to you. If I'm wrong and you haven't, go ahead.

I agree with your thoughts. Definitely needs more time to settle. I hadn't really considered this being a PR stunt, but that's a definite possibility.

They definitely have enough surviving characters that they can afford to bench some for a movie and focus on them in a later installment. I don't want to think of it as spin-offs or a "universe" though.

For sure just speculation. Scream 7 is such a mess right now, 8 won't be confirmed for quite some time, so it's all just speculation for a long while.
