Any former IMDb HACF posters here yet?

I'm hoping y'all will show up here -- sooner rather than later.

reply

Hi, Catbookss! Wow! He did some work archiving these posts. This is the first time I've been here. I'm going to look around and see how many other posts he archived.

reply

Cin! Thank god you made it here. I went back to my PMs to snag your email address, and $@%^ IMDb shut down PMs and the boards early, as I'm sure you know, so I had no way to contact you.

I'm really liking the way this place is shaping up, and hope more of us find out about it and join :D

reply

I've been on another board, https://www.themoviedb.org/ & occasionally I go to http://forums.previously.tv/ but it's just a matter of mastering the boards because they're different. I like the first board because it's new and there aren't any posts for HACF. I haven't posted yet, but I will. Maybe by the time the show is on, we'll have a stable place to go. lol

reply

I registered on PreviouslyTV, but I don't like that only mods can create new threads, and you have to figure out which existing thread best fits your post. I like the posters there, in general, and had already lurked there for about 6 months.

I like that TMDb has boards for all movies/shows, as well as actors, as there are here, but don't care for the interface -- too busy.

reply

Only mods can create new threads?

I can't imagine how a forum like that stays in business.

reply

Yeah, only mods can create the threads. I gather people can write the mods and suggest new thread topics, but no one else can create them. IMO it stifles discussion, but since it's always been that way (as far as I know), people are used to it and don't seem to mind.

reply

Oh really? You dont like MC ? interesting

reply

I posted on the HCF board (under my IMDB username shadow_priest_x). I was sporadic in my posting so y'all may not remember me, but I remember you and cinles.

reply

I'm pretty sure I remember you/shadow_priest. Glad you're here!

reply

Thanks a bunch!

Hopefully we'll get a premiere date for S4 soon and this board will start to get active.

reply

That'll be great. Can't wait for S4! Seems like it's been a long time since S3.

reply

All I see on Instagram & Twitter is Chris Cantwell lying around with his kid or tinkering with his new house. Did you read my post that his wife is pregnant? I was wondering how that would affect his writing?

reply

Nope, didn't know she was preggers. If they had an infant to attend to, that certainly might affect his writing (sleep deprivation and all), but probably not at all yet.

It's really not like Mad Men. It's about personal computing in the 80's. There is a good looking main character who starts out as a slick salesman, but he changes a lot - a lot more than Don Draper, except Don Draper at the end. Catbookss is a Mad Men expert. She can probably address this better than I can.

reply

Someone on the old MM board described HACF as being "the spiritual child of Mad Men," and that's where the similarity lies. I've certainly found that to be true.

reply

I agree with Cinles. There are some similarities between Mad Men and HACF but I wouldn't really say HACF is LIKE Mad Men.

In my opinion HACF is better, but then again, I abandoned Mad Men after about a season and a half.

reply

I've recently added this on my list of shows to binge. Despite my username, I'm actually pretty technical believe it or not, so I'll probably enjoy this series. I've always seen the Apple side of the story so it will be refreshing to see what IBM's side now.

reply

It was on Netflix and the AMC website, but I don't know if it's there anymore. This isn't exactly about IBM. They've taken some real events and made it their own. Many techies compare what they are doing with the events that really occurred in personal computing of the time, but it's not about IBM.

reply

Cat I just read up on Halt And Catch Fire. Going to watch it when I'm up for binge watching. Thanks. Seems our tastes overlap. Where on Earth are you located ? I'm in metro Detroit, Mich..

reply

Hooray! I think you're going to enjoy it, Bwb. Good idea to save it for when you're up for binging. Like Mad Men, it's a show where you have to pay close attention, and are rewarded by rewatches.

reply

I hauled many a Corvette to Chevy dealers in Ca.. Being a truck driver I missed a lot of good shows. Now I'm playing catch up on shows from the 80's, 90', and early 2000's.

reply

Wow, yes, you've got a LOT of catching up to do :)

reply

Yes I do. The more off the wall movies & tv the better.

reply

I posted at IMDb. I will be here for the season 4 premier...One of my favorite current shows...

reply

I'm here! Just got here. We need to spread the word of Moviechat.

reply

Great, welcome! Wish I had a way to contact many of my IMDb friends who haven't yet make their way here. If you do, please do let them know!

reply

Spreading the word. Posted on reddit and didnt get much of a response sadly.

reply

Hi Cat! Yes, I found this and also see Cinles is on here too. A little over an hour till the next episode.

reply

Dudestein!!! I'm so happy to see you found your way here! Yes, Cin found her way here a few months ago! What, the new season's starting already? Damn, I'm going to have to find some way to watch it.

reply

Yes, tonight is the 2nd week but is episode 3 because last weeks premier was a 2 hour, 2 episode show. Here is a tip that might get you a shot at seeing it. Sling has AMC in its standard package and they offer the 1st week free. I think you did try sling before for the free week, but you could set up a 2nd free email acct and use that to sign up for another free week.

reply

I never did sign up for Sling, so I'd be good for a week, but that doesn't help as far as seeing the rest of the season. I'm hoping Rubix08 is right, and I'll be able to see everything on the AMC site, after it airs.

Fingers crossed! Right now it's the only show I care about. Chances are it'll be a while before there's another I care about as much.

reply

Sling allows you to Watch episodes on demand, and they archive previous episodes. On some channels, (NOT AMC) you can even stop and rewind or even go back in the broadcast history and restart an episode.

reply

AMC streams them on their website after they air. No cable login required.

Happy watching!

reply

Really! Thank you so much. I've got some catching up to do, and am VERY much looking forward to it!

reply

Your wrong on that. I checked. AMC might throw in a free episode, usually a season premiere, but they do require a Cable Login if you try to stream full-length episodes. I've tried to stream from the AMC website.

reply

Maybe it depends on your area? I dont have a cable subscription at all and I watched the new episode on the website last night.

Edit: I just checked now on my phone and if you download the free app you can watch from a mobile device too, it does say no log in required as well.

reply

Is your Internet provider also your cable company? Probably the only way you can get streaming is that your internet provider automatically logs you in. The great majority of time you will be asked to log in. This I know from experience. I've tried. Always asks me to log into my cable subscriber.

reply

P.S. They all say 'no login required' to use the app. You can watch previews and the occasional 'FREE' episode. But when one tries to watch a full length episode, you'll get redirected to a login page.

reply

Ah you're right. I had cancelled my cable service, which is the same company for my internet, but I still have my subscription to PlayStation Vue which has AMC. Too bad they won't stream them without the cable log in even for a few days afterwards. :(

reply

Damn. Maybe I'll just wait until the season's over and binge it on Sling, since they archive the earlier episodes.

I'm preparing for a cross-country road trip with my dog, which is taking up most all of my concentration anyway.

reply

I'm preparing for a cross-country road trip with my dog

Perhaps Harlan Ellison can write about it....

reply

I have a feeling I'm missing some association here ;p

But guess what? I CAN see the episodes without logging in! Finished the first and am partway through the second. Needless to say, I'm thrilled!

reply

Aha, I got it! A Boy and His Dog popped into my mind (film, not the book; I've never read Ellison), and lo and behold, in fact he did write it :)

reply

:-)

reply

I can see all the episodes without logging in - catbookss, you have my login if you need it.
