new Kathleen Kennedy comments on Ep IX

I like the idea of them opening IX with a potential funeral for Leia. No matter what they do, we'll always wonder a bit, and so it'll always be a bummer knowing that the Ep IX we get isn't as intended. But I feel like that's the best way to handle it, allowing us all to mourn in a few different ways, acknowledge it at the start of the movie, let it be part of the movie, and then move on with the story. To have her character be alive but off-screen forevermore, or become digital, just wouldn't feel as right or honorable to me.

Which is why I wouldn't have a problem just using the digital trick that they already did with Tarkin and Leia. In a few years, new fans probably wouldn't even know it was digital.

I agree with you to a point.

I'd be almost fine with them using this technology, just so we could get the "correct" story.

However.

I disagree. If anything, it's the other way around. Over time, audiences become more savvy, technology advances (and also ages), and so it serves to date the movies. You can tell it's not real, and it becomes more obvious over time. There are many movies (example, Avatar), that are SO impressive at their release, because they're using the best technology that's available to them at that time. AT. THAT. TIME. I mean, even now, already, Avatar's age is showing, and will likely look different from what we experience in the sequels, should they ever be produced.

I agree with that statement. I think digital does need fine tuning. But it does impress on first release. I know Avatar gets a bad rep, but I found it beautiful and took risks.

I still believe there is a possibility that they are lying, and that Leia was never going to be the focus in 9. I think they could really be trying to cover up the fact that Leia dies in 8.

Hadn't thought of that, but now kind of hoping for it just so the original vision doesn't have to be change. If it were to happen that way, depending on how it unfolds, a funeral could still be a cool way to open Episode IX. A funeral for her at all would be cool, sort of mirror Padme.

That original script should be a bonus feature on disc

what female character will take her place as supreme ruler and steady leader in the storyline now?

Leia was the ONLY 'OT' character that didn't revert back to their origin pre-ANH or turn into a coward and hide from their responsibility; completely undoing 100% of their growth after ROTJ.

No doubt all remnants of the 'old male dominated ways' will disappear as rey becomes 'the new' force in the galaxy - something entirely different from Jedi.
