Exchange between Rey & Luke in the end...

Nothing in real life makes me cry but some reason this scene gets me every time. I don’t recall having this reaction the first time I saw it in theaters. When I watch the last 3 minutes of the film on YouTube, let’s just say there’s no need to use eye drops on my contacts.

Yeah I can think of plenty more examples that are more emotional. I thought the ending was the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

She walks up behind him as he's pissing off the edge of a cliff. How does that conjure any emotion?

The music. The sense of the passage of time for both the characters and us as fans. So much creativity and energy has lead to this moment.

When I first saw it I was a little dissapointed there wasn’t more Luke. So being forced to take the big picture perspective, this was a pretty big deal. We’ve waited 32 years since we last saw Luke what’s 2 more?

It was a good scene.

I do kind of wish that Luke had given a slight shake of his head as Rey handed the saber to him, and then after that, she lowers it back to her side, knowing it's now hers.

Still no dialogue needed.

I agree that the idea behind the scene is a great payoff. What I meant to convey was, as executed, it has a lot to follow up with in terms of the original trilogy's ending shots.

You know, they both did a remarkable job conveying such emotion between two characters that had never met before (as far as we know) and with no dialog.

reply

Yeah they did. I was a somewhat harsh critic of TFA when it came out but it really grew on me. Rogue One I have a much harder time forgiving besides a couple good scenes.
