Good acting I thought by Ali and Dorff. I just didn't think it was that suspenseful. The ending was a bit anti-climactic. I also thought the ongoing relationship between Hays and his wife was a bit too much. I just didn't care that much about their marriage. When it comes to crime shows, give me a mystery and get to work solving it. Just too much padding in Season 3. 6.5/10.

Episode 8 pissed me off so bad I had to go back and watch Season 1 again just so I felt better.

Maybe it would have come across that way moreso if you'd watched it with it paced as it was intended. I'm not even being a smartass, I really think you discredit the significance in how a shows writing can be effected without the breaks.

True Detective isn't really that type of show. It's more about examining the characters than being a whodunit. It's why we received a lot of onscreen time revolving around Wayne and Amelia.

At least it was better than the second season.

I just didn't think their marriage dynamic was that important to the case. It was better than S2.

I tend to agree with many of your points, but still think it much was better than most crap on TV, I'd give it an 8 or so.
