What if Ice Cube was cast as J. Jonah Jameson?

Assuming the rumors regarding JB Smooth playing J. Jonah Jameson in the next solo Spider-Man movie aren't true:

His performance is so fondly remembered that no matter who is cast in the role, chances are we’ll compare them to J.K. Simmons. To recast J. Jonah Jameson, you have to be true to the spirit of the character, but also be different enough that audiences won’t see the new actor as “J.K. Simmons-lite.”

That’s where Ice Cube comes in. Jameson is always angry, and that’s really all Ice Cube plays. He’d be great at yelling at Peter Parker, and he has enough existing star power that it would likely be a welcome cameo, especially if Marvel Studios decided to keep it a secret that he was in the movie. For anyone worried about whether Ice Cube has the acting chops for the role, remember that a two-hour Spider-Man movie probably won’t have enough time to explore the underlying motivations of Jameson’s character. All the role really requires is to be angry, and to yell. Ice Cube does both of those exceptionally.

No. No. No. No.

He's the exact same in every movie. It worked with Boyz n the Hood, but he would be awful in Spider-Man.

It would be funny, that's for sure, he's a funny guy. I don't think I have any preferences for the role, since we can't have JK Simmons.

I mean... I could see the outcome being amusing. Imagining young Tom Holland reacting to Cube’s outbursts and insults is a hilarious thought.

Still, while his “approach” to acting may be fitting for a character like Jonah Jameson... it would ultimately be Ice Cube being Ice Cube. Watching him do the same uninteresting thing over and over gets exhausting, and unlike JK Simmons, he wouldn’t be distinguishable as JJ compared to all his other roles. So, I’ll pass.

J.B. Smoove’s inclusion should be cool though.

This is a rare occasion where I would accept anyone to play JJJ other than JK Simmons. I think it would get too distracting..

I was thinking that JK Simmons must be the reason why J. Jonah Jameson hasn't reemerged (nor have the had Peter working at the Daily Bugle) in the Spider-Man movies following the Sam Raimi trilogy. Basically, Simmons played the character so well that it would naturally be a tough act to follow.

May be Robert Deniro.
