So Fantastic Four got slammed because of changes to it's characters and origins...

....but Spiderman Home coming gets a pass...wtf???? This Spiderman is less like it's comic counterpart than any MCU so far....

reply

Exactly! I can't believe the people who are saying that they finally got Spider-Man right and that it's the closest to the comics. I don't know what movie they watched! This couldn't have been further from the source material. Very disappointing.

reply

Fant4stic got slammed because it was a bad movie.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a good movie.

That's the difference.

reply

No Fantastic Four was slammed before release because of the changes to the Storms, A black Johnny Storm and Adopted Sister Sue...but Spiderman Homecoming where was the outcry from fans???

reply

There was plenty of whining from "fans" especially on the IMDb boards.

reply

Fan4stic was slammed because it was a dour dull plodding mess that refused to make any sense.

Thank you, yes -- ^this^

I was at the movies and there was a mixup with the showtimes for the movie I wanted, so I had two hours to kill. Instead of leaving and coming back, I went in to Fantastic Four to check out the previews and start of the movie. (Not a super legal move, but the theater had kinda screwed up my day, so hey.) I thought, "The reviews were brutal, but FF can't be that bad. If nothing else, it'll be a fun way to kill some time before my movie."

Oh. My. God.

My brain felt numb. I've generally enjoyed the actors in other roles, but they looked like they were in constant pain. It was even more painful because there was a fair amount of money in the budget. I really didn't expect to dislike that much. It was just kinda dreadful, even when it was free.

It was obvious that this movie completely diverged from what Spider-Man is supposed to be, which is why this lifelong Spider-Man fan is boycotting it. Half the excitement of seeing any comic book adaptation is seeing how they find actors who manage to look like the characters. I guess instead of Christopher Reeve they should've cast Billy Dee Williams as Superman back in the day, since according to hacks like Amy Pascal and the others who made this movie, accuracy doesn't matter anymore.
