As good as Hitchcock's version.

Rebecca and Dial M for Murder are two best Hitchcock's movies in my opinion, so I'm surprised new version can compete Hitchcock's.

If you love old one, you should check this out.

Of course it is, it has Lily James in it.

Meh, I don't find her beautiful, she has man jaw, but she can act.

While I did enjoy this version, there were a few things I didn't think worked very well.
The original was a far superior film.

One thing I am glad about though. They ended it so that if anyone follows, they cannot possibly use that deplorable "sequel" the DeMaurier estate approved. That's one book that should NEVER have been written

reply

I don't know there are sequel, have to check Wiki, I'm impress anyone read it.

It was called Mrs de Winter by Susan Hill. Many years after Daphne DeMaurier's death, Susan Hill approached the estate with an outline and they approved it. They actually gave her access to DeMaurier's notes to work with. It was bad.

This new version wasn't bad. A lot of reviews on iMDB rated it poorly because they were comparing it to the original. I haven't seen that one.

I don't think it's as good as Hitch's version, but it was better than I expected. I could have done without the fantasy and dream sequences, but overall it was a pretty good adaptation of the book (one of my favorites). As for the "sequel" to the book, I read it in the late nineties; but I can't remember a thing about it!

The new version is very good, and James and Thomas are excellent. But I would give the Hitchcock version the edge. Its black-and-white cinematography is spectacular.
