The whiskey glass

Did anyone else notice this...?
When his cop boss is in his apartment drinking whisky, she says “what would happen if I finished this”, and then puts the glass down and the glass ‘digitally breaks up’ as if it was a hologram.

Im not sure what the point of that would be? Did I imagine this?

Remember the scene, did not notice the breaking up (and I remember those glasses were physically earlier in the movie, as he was having a drink with him self).... I got it as though she was playing with the idea of having sexy-time with him... get a bit drunk and ya know... but if your observation is true, it likely implies something like the digital world is empty to her, or that even she slowly begins to accept it may not be...

I thought the same as you, HAL. She was saying, Should we just go ahead and screw?

reply

Yeah, I got the implied sexy-time aspect. It's the digital break up of the glass... would it be a hologram overlay, the same as the nicer meal hologram overlay from earlier?

Or was it just my imagination?

I agree. She was flirting, but it was non-committal flirting, in that, she never expected it to happen. She just wanted to throw out the question to amuse herself and make K feel awkward.

She's clearly a drive, successful, and attractive person...makes you wonder why she did not "escape" to the off-world colonies?

reply

Better to rule in hell than serve in heaven, maybe?

Just saw it again ... the glass never broke up. She slammed it down quite loudly and it was still there when she got up and walked out.
