BO Mojo: 'Pacific Rim Uprising' Looks to Dethrone 'Black Panther'

Hopefully Gnomes does not take second place. Last weekend was $27m, so 40% drop.

Pacific Rim Job $21
Black Panther $16m
Stupid Gnomes $15m
Tomb Raid $13m
Imagine God $11m

BP's run wasn't designed to dominate forever and after 5 weeks isn't it time for other movies to shine?

reply

so?

I guess Kaiju's will celebrate?

reply

i guess so?! but why?

Kaijus get more movies!

21 million is too low for PR. It's previews were even higher than Tomb Raider's.

Speaking of Tomb Raider, it's really legging out nicely with very solid weekdays and what is shaping up to be a nice -40% weekend hold.

You might be right about PR:U but even $25 Million is too low of an opening number with poor metacritc and Rottentomatoes scores (both audiences and reviewers don't seem too thrilled). It might be a crowd pleaser for those that care to attend though.

Tomb Raider will succeed internationally it seems and may even out perform BP in China. Don't you think so?

Hard to predict the Chinese market. Personally, I'm not nearly as fascinated as most are with China given that studios get a paltry 25% of the gross. It's all about bragging rights and I find that underwhelming.

But you are so invested in "Bragging Rights" for Universal or WB regardless of the source of the dollars. IN 2017 WW in your terms slaughtered the MCU based on domestic box office. Wasn't that all about bragging rights? But when compared to WW Box office WW didn't fare as well and so International dollars and now bragging rights don't matter?

Queen, your constant comparisons and relative scales of comparisons for Warner/DC and universal versus Disney/Marvel is always a competition about performance, trends and bragging rights. You've even bragged about the staple of Director talent for WB/DC versus Disney/Marvel and how the Director's are "White Hot" or "Red-Hot" while Disney/Marvel is struggling and failing.

The WW market is very much an International Market and has immense impact regardless of how you paint the Middle Kingdom but I understand your talking point. If it suits your needs it is a hammer to try and bludgeon Disney with. If it doesn't suit your needs then the dollars are not relevant.

It's always better to have domestic success than any other market as the studio gets 50%

That might be for films that are 100% financed by a USA studio. What about internationally financed films?

Doesn't it really depend on the studio and what they are attempting to achieve? Take Pacific Rim it was clearly developed for the appetites of international audiences. Very similar to the game plan for Transformers. Any domestic returns are more for "Bragging Rights" in what they are really looking for is the International take with a keen eye to the total dollars.

25% of $800 Million is always better than 50% of $200 Million.

Remember this comparative box office analysis Queen? Where is your critique for Aquaman sitting at 72% international vs domestic?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

reply

It would be better, but it's hard to fault these kind of domestic numbers.

But if it were a Marvel/Disney movie you WOULD fault it now wouldn't you?

How WOULD the Dom/Int number for Aquaman be better? Did you mean to say, "SHOULD be better" instead?

do you ever get tired of putting your foot in your mouth?

its not that hard? you dont understand box office, therefor DONT TALK BOX OFFICE.

you dont understand the results, there was not 1 god damn thing you could point to that even remotely suggested Tomb Raider was headed toward a 40% 2nd weekend hold...NOTHING....how you came to that conclusion is beyond me, You truly just had to have "WANTED" it to have a good hold, and then tried to wish it into reality...

instead Tomb Raider HAD the LARGEST DROP OF THE WEEKEND With 56%

WB's TOMB RAIDER had the biggest tumble in the Top 10 falling -56% on its 2nd adventure w/ $10.4M, $41M total.

lol

nothing about TOMB RAIDER is legging out....

but if you truly believe it is, then congrats, I'll apply that to Disney's Wrinkle which then according to you must be LEGGING Greatly! because its having Better holds than Tomb Raider all around with consistent 50% holds which will result in a 90 Millionish domestic run While Tomb Raider is have 56% holds Which Will result in a Sub 65 M Domestic Run...'

so congrats, your Trolling only proved A Disney movie is Beating a WB movie...if you want to get desperate a claim TB is "Legging" solidly....fine, I dont agree, but fine, I'll take your desperate scale and apply it to a Disney film and RUIN YOUR LIFE

PS....just wanted to have another giant laugh at you predicting a 40% drop for TR and instead TR has the biggest drop of the weekend at 56%...only you could fail that badly queen!

now heres that laugh-lolololololololololollolololololololololollolololololololololollolololololololololollolololololololololol
