Is the movie good or is it mostly just pandering?

I saw the trailer for it last month and parts of it do actually look entertaining and funny, but it seems like it's obviously going to be woke pandering BS at the same time. I'm wondering if there's more comedy in it than actually shown in the trailer, or if the trailer is the only amount of "comedy" in the film and the rest is just politics/pandering.

I haven't seen a good comedy in a while, I want to like this movie, but I genuinely cannot tell if the writers put their soul into this or if it's just another generic milquetoast woke movie that will be forgotten the same month of it's release followed by "homophobia" being blamed for it's failure rather than the fact that it's just a shitty movie.

YOU SHOUDLD SKIP IT...UNLESS YOU ARE LOOKNG FOR SOMETHING TO BITCH ABOUT.

reply

So.. It is pandering then?

Am I walking into Superbad/Step Brothers type of movie, or am I walking into an Amy Schumer-type of movie that just claims to be a comedy but is just a political agenda with a "comedy" skin.

reply

WHICH AMY SCHUMER MOVIE ARE YOU REFERRING TO?...I FIND HER FILMS TO BE LESS THAN GREAT BUT NOT WHAT YOU ARE DESCRIBING EITHER.

reply

I'm just asking if this movie is a legitimate comedy written for the purpose of entertainment, or if it's just a political agenda being falsely advertised as a legitimate film.

Have you seen the film?

reply

I'M JUST REFUTING YOUR ENTIRE THREAD BY SAYING THAT...a political agenda being falsely advertised as a legitimate film...IS A TROJAN HORSE USED BY LESS THAN LIKEABLE LADS TO HATE ON PEOPLE THAT ARE DIFFERENT THAN THEY ARE.

reply

Nah, nobody hates these people, they just don't want to waste their time watching a movie that isn't entertaining or supporting actors/writers that aren't good at their job. You're thinking way too deeply into it.

The purpose of a film is entertainment. If it fails to provide that purpose, it's not worth seeing. If it has a political agenda, then it's not entertaining. It doesn't matter if it promotes the right or the left, political pandering is political pandering and should be labeled as such on a film, otherwise it's false advertising for the purpose of a bait-and-switch.

If this movie *isn't* political pandering though, just say so (if you've seen it). That's all I'm trying to find out, if it's written for the purpose of entertainment or for the purpose of being political and whiny.

reply

If it has a political agenda, then it's not entertaining.

FALSE...ABSOLUTELY FALSE...YOU JUST DISAGREE WITH THIS "AGENDA"...THAT IS A HARSH WORD...MESSAGE IS MORE APPROPRIATE...FILMS HAVE CARRIED THEIR CREATOR'S MESSAGES SINCE FOREVER...FILM IS ART AND ART HAS SOMETHING TO SAY...IT'S OK IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR WHAT A FILM HAS TO SAY...BUT THAT ISN'T WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE...I THINK WE BOTH KNOW JUST BASED ON THE SYNOPSIS THAT YOU ARE NOT REALLY INTERESTED.

reply

Bro. I'm asking a simple question.

Am I going to be entertained while watching this film or am I going to be lectured to?

I just need a yes or no if this movie is actually funny or not.

Just ignore ALL CAPS, he's trolling.

THE OP IS TROLLING...I AM SIMPLY PLAYING HIS GAME.

reply

I don't know if it's "pandering" necessarily, but it's just not very good. It's a ridiculous comedy, which is fine--but then you have to be FUNNY. If you just sit there thinking "okay, that's ridiculous" but don't laugh, what are you left with?

I do think it's likely getting better reviews than it deserves for political reasons.

reply

Thank you, this answers my exact question.

reply

NOT REALLY...IT ISN'T PANDERING OR FUNNY APPARENTLY...YOUR EXACT QUESTION WAS WHICH ONE IS IT?...IT IS NEITHER.

reply

True.

What a Christian thing to say.

It's not good. What struck me most was the complete lack of humour.
It's bizarre, loud and anything but funny.

reply

I just watched it. I thought it was fun and had a great deal going for it -- although it's not really my kind of comedy. Despite being pleasingly subversive (or probably 'woke' in your tiresome, second-hand world view), it's just too broad and quippy for my own personal tastes. Likeable cast though. I was entertained. I chuckled a few times, but won't pretend I got big laughs from it. The director's previous film Shiva Baby is more my speed...

... But I've no idea what you mean by 'pandering' in this instance. Films are made for all sorts of different audiences. Guess what? A gay-themed high school comedy probably isn't aimed at you if you immediately don't like the sound of it. If the very concept provokes words like 'pandering' and 'woke' and leads one to pre-emptively deny being homophobic (when nobody asked), then you should probably just skip it.

But something being made for an audience you don't happen to be in isn't 'pandering'. You aren't the centre of the universe.

reply

It box checks which makes it generic
