Christian Context (short review)
So Georg Elser is a man who:
-Chases after a married woman, getting into a relationship with her.
-Lies with a man's wife (same woman above, though her husband is a drunk and wife-beater).
-Then, cheats on her with another woman in a one-off fling.
-Dances (a South American one with sexual roots).
-Calls people he doesn't like with the term "Gypsy" in a demeaning way (not shown in film).
-Kills people with a bomb he created in a bid to assassinate Hitler and Nazis.
"I only wanted to prevent further bloodshed," he reasoned.
All of these go against Christian moral principles (Dancing one depends on who is asked).
Yet, he is shown to be a worshipper of Christ. My point being, he is, despite what he's done.
Christianity is all about redemption, delivering from temptation, forgiveness, love and kindness.
-He protects the weak (sheltering his communist friend from unfair prosecution).
-Honors mother and father in spite of dad being a drunk, financial sinker, and a hard time.
-Ultimately acts on his disapproval of anti-Semitism towards Jews which he witnesses.
-Demonstrates unflinching faith and resolve while enduring physical torture in captivity.
-Refuses to help captors until his family's lives are at stake (selflessness).
-Shows care to others even in soul crushing places (helps Nazi-aiding officer at Dachau). What?
For all his personal flaws and failures, he followed his conscience in hard times which test faith.
