Great movie for people from the 80's...

or love 80's culture which I am from. Can't beat the 80's I say. Just too many great classics and nostalgia. I have to say though without all this nostalgia and some really cool CGI sequences, this movie would be just mediocre based on the plot alone if not the acting on some of the characters (stiff characters like the boss from IOI).

Also, I didn't hear Take on Me A-Ha during the whole movie. :<
Disappointed.

I also thought it was strange we never heard that song.

This movie sucks. I turned 7 in 1980 and 17 in 1990. I think its fair to say I grew up in the 80's. There is no substance to this movie. Just reference, reference reference, reference. I was extremely disappointed. Not to mention all the CONVENIENT plot points that I don't want to spoil. 4/10

Agreed. I read a few reviews which hyped this film up - and I recall tons of films which were similar but better made/written.
A few films that come to mind - 'the last starfighter', 'neverending story' and 'flight of the navigator'.

Those films seemed amazing to me back then - perhaps because they were 'fresh'? This film comprises of tons of references to various films/games, but is nothing all that amazing on its own.

I don't think a lot of those reviews were genuine, but rather paid for by the huge advertising budget of this movie.

Agreed. Other than the nostalgia, without it, the movie was at most mediocre at best.

That is all it has to offer - nostalgic pop culture references. The cons far outweigh that one pro. The characters were largely underdeveloped, making it hard for us to care, and this is particularly true for the secondary characters. Blowing up the trailer building was supposed to be an emotional moment of the moment, but I found myself not caring. Ditto for his big 'Braveheart' speech at the end. A movie going long is fine as long as it pulls you in, but this one didn't, so towards the end, was counting the minutes until it was finally over.

It did have a lot of 80s pop culture references and some pretty cool CGI action sequences if you are into that sort of thing.
