At the top, adapted from Ernest Cline's best-selling novel, Ready Player One delivers a nostalgic journey into a virtual world at the hands of director Steven Spielberg. While early online sentiments appeared to fear the film may depend a little too much on nostalgia, early reactions out of SXSW, along with reviews, seem to have squelched many of those concerns with the film currently holding steady with a score of 65 on Metacritic and a Certified Fresh rating of 82% on RottenTomatoes. That being said, those early concerns seemed to impact early tracking, which suggested a $35 million debut, which would be a bit soft for a film carrying a budget reported to be anywhere from $155-175 million before P&A.

Heading into the weekend, tracking hasn't changed too much, but our analysis shows evidence it will easily bring in $35 million for the four-day, likely pushing to around $45-50 million, if not a bit higher. A look at IMDb page view data shows it pacing behind Star Trek Into Darkness and The Martian over the two weeks leading up to release, though to an extent that a $45-50 million opening seems reasonable. At the same time it's pacing ahead of Power Rangers, Star Trek Beyond and all three films in the Maze Runner franchise.

It will be a "bang" and not a whimper. Hot WOM will see it build over the weekend and with many schools out next week...VERY strong weekday business.

We're looking at a leggy hit, guys.

^^
lol remember when you predicted a 85 M OW?......lolololololololol

We're looking at a leggy hit, guys.
^^^
remember last week when you predicted Tomb Raider was heading toward a leggy 40 % drop in its 2nd weekend ....and then instead TR had the biggest drop of the weekend with 56%...lol

hey just wanted to add to your misery....

Your campaign against Disney took another GiANT hit today with News that is sure going to KILL YOU.

did you hear, Disney had the 2 most PROFITABLE films of 2017 in Beauty and The Beast and (Oh man this ones gonna kill you) The Last Jedi!

lol B+B made Disney 414 M in Profit....While TLJ made Disney 417 M in Profit....

lol just another year of Dominance for Disney...but this has to kill you because this is a Double shot of pain, Not only do you hate Disney, but you've also been on a quest to try and prove The Last Jedi was a disappointment....and Heres undeniable proof right in front of you that TLJ was the most successful and Profitable film of 2017...

now I know what your going to want to do, this news will of course bother you, you'll quickly want to come up with some absurd reason why this news isnt accurate, but remember and think before you do thatm because this same news is reporting big Profits on WBs "It" and Wonder Woman....so if you try to get desperate and claim the site is wrong, your not only damning Disney but WB films too

all though I wouldnt get too excited about It and WWs profits, first they arent nearly as large as Disneys from B+B and TLJ and 2nd, all of their profits has been DEVOURED by WB 5 massive bombs this year in King Arthur,Geostorm,Blade Runner,JL and Tomb Raider...

Hard to imagine it not being a huge hit... It's basically Spielberg's own "Avatar," nine years later, except even more kid-friendly.

I'm pretty sure its gonna struggle

Seems set for a 40 to 50 Million OW(probably closer to 45 M)

overseas Spielberg last 5 films havent been to Huge....

based on what I'm seeing...RPO might be looking at a

130 to 170 Million Domestic gross and about 250 to 300 Million Overseas for a total between 380 to 470 M

With a budget over 150 M and Marketing, RPO might just break even, or make a small profit, but far from a Huge hit...

I will admit though, I want to wait and see until the weekend is over, I want to see what kind of WOM this gets....While Reviews are good, they arent Great, WOM seems to be good but not Overwhelming....

I want to see what kind of cinemascore PRO gets and what kind Of Holds it has....

right now I see nothing to suggest RPO will have the kind of Word of mouth to have Excellent holds that could result in it making over 200 M domestically or 500 Million WW.....But It may be possible, I'll know after this weekend...

regardless IMO Its not looking good for RPO
