The Civil War was NOT about slavery - This movie lied.

How could it be when:

1. Four northern states ( KY MO DE and MD) practiced legal slavery during the war.

2. A number of northern generals, including US Grant, were slave owners during the war.

3. Lincoln's second VP, andrew johnson, was a slave owner during the war.

You've been lied to. Like all wars, the CW was mostly about profiteering. Also states rights and the tariff issue. Slavery had little to do with it. The north had to justify starting a war that killed 600,000 americans and so they invented the myth that it was about freeing the slaves.

Yeah you are right. It was about profiteering. From slaves. Taxes on Slaves :/

The war was about slavery you big dumb racist.

I love it when you get a poster who thinks they know American history

MD and DE never seceded from the US so were technically Part of the US

MD and DE were were heavily occupied at the start to prevent secession

Slavery was not against any federal law or statute until 1865, it was federally allowable subject to STATE law

The Emancipation Proclamation ONLY freed the slaves in the states that were in rebellion

MO,and KY being border states contributed to both sides of the conflict, border states like them and TN were treated differently

Lincolns plan upon election was not to end slavery, but to contain it. ANY new territories were not going to be given the option of free or slave, they were going to have to be free

He was also going to rescind the 3/5ths clause in the census, this would limit the south's congressional delegation by about 1/3

So Yeah it was all about slavery

Also the Emancipation Proclamation was intended to keep England and France out of the war. Both had intended to support the South. By making slavery an issue Lincoln tied their hands since both countries had already abolished it and couldn't fight to preserve it.

Yes it was, and no amount of wishful revisionism is going to change that fact. Like the south was going to give up it's human chattel that easy. Or say we don't care if slaves are free and we lose our livelihoods, we only care about state's rights!
