Here's a way they could explain the sequels. Have 2 through Resurrection all be a strange dream that Laurie had. I love the sequels and will continue to watch them, but it would be interesting if they did that. Either way, I can't wait for this movie :)

shareI'm always leery of the use of dreams as a means of covering for something. It feels like a cop out, and has already been done too often. (No offense, it's still a valid idea). I just like that they are taking the high road and pretending those sequels never happened. Compared to the original (which I consider a masterpiece), the sequels seem so bad they're embarrassing.
shareAgreed about dreams being an overused trope. They really don't need to explain away anything. Storytelling isn't as rigid as it used to be. The way I see it, people can simply choose their poison in terms of viewing timelines. Comics have been giving us divergent timelines for years. I don't see why this is any less valid as a new tool for big-screen storytelling. Here are your options:
H1 through (minus H3) H6 (producers cut or theatrical cut).
H1 and H3 (as if this was an anthology series)
H1, H2, and H20
H1, H2, H20, and H8 (Although I'm unsure if anyone wants to acknowledge Resurrection)
Rob Zombie's H1 and H2
H1 and Haloween (2018)
See? They can all be canon in different viewing orders.
This might as well not be canon, you can't ignore existing lore, those films happened over two decades. If they don't want to acknowledge the sequels the only real way would be to call this a remake. I'll continue to support the sequels, Scream Factory have new 4K remasters of II and III coming out on Blu-ray in October.
shareI don't know why you're acting like this is the first time they've retconned films in this franchise and this is now the first time the silly "and it was all a dream" cop-out excuse is needed.....it's not.
H4 already retconned the ending of H2, H6 basically retconned most of H4 + H5, H20 retconned ALL of H4, H5 + H6, and even Resurrection retconned the ending of H20!
We don't need the dream excuse, this is just yet another fork in the road story for the Halloween series. The end.
Hey, thanks for all the responses :) Yeah, I pretend they're all alternate universes, which they pretty much are, it was just an idea if they ever wanted to try and tie all of them together.
