Why only "Halloween"

Why not call it "Halloween H40", "Halloween Returns", or "Halloween: The Night He Returned Home"? We already have two films that only bare the name "Halloween"; the original 1978 one and the 2007 remake.

At first, like I’m sure most people, I too wondered why they couldn’t have gone with a more original title. Seriously, a direct sequel to the original and it bears the exact same name? Hmm...

But the more I think about it, the more these longer titles seem hackneyed and ineffective. Personally, I find all the titles along these lines to lack the effectiveness that they would have had back in the 80’s and 90’s.

“Halloween”, as unoriginal as it may be itself, certainly rolls off the tongue better than any alternative title (“Michael Myers” or “The Shape Stalks” could’ve been good ones tho). But idk, it essentially feels appropriate. Plenty of fans of the franchise will know it as Halloween 2018, while new fans will simply know it as Halloween. It’s all fine by me, I like this familiar one word title.

Here's the sequels that they have planned:

Halloween 2: Micheal's Vegance
Halloween 3: Trick or Treat Heroes
Halloween 4: The Trick or Treat Wizard
Halloween 5: The Trick or Treat Kid
Micheal Dies: The Final Halloween
John Carpenter's New Halloween

Then another reboot with more sequels:

Halloween: Monday, October The 31st (2038)
Halloween, Episode 2
Halloween, Episode 3D
Halloween IV: The Last Story
Halloween V: A New Prologue
Halloween VI: Micheal's Alive
Halloween VII: The New Gorefest
Halloween VIII: Micheal Comes To Tokyo
Micheal Is Banished To Hell: The Last, Last Halloween
Micheal DX (which is the 510th installment, set in the year 2488, although the film starts out, in 2050)
Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Micheal Vs. Pinhead Vs. Leatherface Vs. Chucky Vs. Candyman

Meanwhile in a parallel universe, a trilogy is being made:

Halloween: National Boogyman of Blumhouse
Halloween: The Cop Who Cucked Me
Halloween: Butterfinger

I don't know why they didn't go with a subtitle of some sort.

They did the same thing with the prequel to Carpenter's version of the Thing, and it annoyed me then too.

They should have called it Thanksgiving or Christmas. Now that would be a sequel.
