The Fabelmans looks like a bland tv movie. New technology has not yielded better results. Same goes for George Lucas.
shareTo be fair, I think that there have been many beautiful films that were shot digitally. But I do agree that, on the whole, digital cameras have not been a good thing for cinematography.
I was just watching A Christmas Story Christmas the other day and was thinking about how it would've benefited from being shot on film. The super crisp and clean digital look didn't help with convincing me that what I was watching was taking place in the 1970s.

It seems all of Spielberg's movies since Schindler's List has had the same cinematographer, Janusz Kaminski. He may be the problem.
I agree. He's been using too much boom lighting in his films and it's really not picking up well on film.
