Hasn't aged well at all

Just watched it. A lot of the special effects look like a student film by todays standards. I'm talking about the blood explosions and those infra red scope overlays. Looked terrible. Most know that you see the red dot, not a gigantic red line. You'd need smoke for that.

Beyond the bad special effects, it seems even more like an 80s movie than in 2010.

Mickey Rourke talking about letting the woman commit suicide is the only noteworthy scene in the entire movie.

How dare you. The Expendables doesn’t come close to being an 80’s movie. That incredible cast wasted on an atrocious script, with lame, uninspired action. Then they repeated the mistake, and then made it worse with a PG-13 threequel for kids, reminiscent of Robocop 3.

One of Hollywood’s most tragic misfires.

reply

The PG-13 made the most money.

reply

Of course. It’s called selling out.

reply

Totally correct.
I remember my moronic, tasteless cousin recommending it.
When I watched it I couldn't believe how awful and boring the whole thing was.
It is just a Ready Player One precursor, with the same cheap "look, it's that guy from the 80s!" exploitation and nothing else behind it.

Stictly for tasteless morons.

reply

It needed practical effects for the blood not CGI.

I HAVENT SEEN THE FIRST ONE IN A WHILE...TIME FOR A REWATCH I THINK.

reply

Opposite for me. I hated this when it came out. But watching it now, it fits right with the old school action films. Which I like. But it certaily didn't live up to the potential of everything it could have been.
