Was anyone else expecting Harvey Keitel to have more scenes?

Martin Scorsese and Harvey Keitel haven't worked together since Keitel's great performance as that POS pedophile-pimp in Taxi Driver. So, I was hoping Scorsese would've given Keitel a larger role/more screen time in the movie. Overall I still liked "The Irishman" a lot and the few scenes we got with Keitel were great. Scorsese is a master filmmaker who creates art that imitates life. Regardless of Keitel's limited screen time, this is still a decent Scorsese movie with good actors giving good performances.

I'm with you....I thought Keitel would have had more screen time and am disappointed he did not.

I was letdown by Keitel's small role.

Didn’t Keitel play Judas in The Last Temptation of Christ or am I imagining it as I only saw the film once over 10 years ago but could have sworn he was in it.

I’d have liked more of him in The Irishman as well. Great actor.

reply

Yes, Keitel was Judas-- thankless role too.

I also would have liked to have seem more him and Bobby Cannevale too.

That's one of Scorsese's movies I still haven't seen. Is it worth watching?

reply

You know the answer to this. Just do it.

reply

I'm not a religious person, that's why I was asking. But I'll do it and check it out someday even if it's a movie about Jesus....because it's Scorsese at the helm!

I'd say it was worthwhile. I actually saw it on the day it came out in 1988. There were scores of protesters outside saying that it was blasphemous. The thing I remember most about the film was the music by Peter Gabriel. It was incredible, but it wasn't released as a soundtrack album. Instead Peter Gabriel released it independently about a year later under the name "Passion."

But I digress. The film is really like fan fiction for the New Testament. Some people hated it. I thought it was interesting, but had no interest in viewing it again over the past 30 years.

Thanks for the info, it sounds like a controversial and interesting movie. The Last Temptation of Christ is another one of Scorsese's "labor of love" movies (like Kundun and Silence) that I should make time to watch....maybe this winter.

reply

I also thought he would have a bigger role as his name was included in the top 4 in the very first teaser trailer.

reply

Maybe originally, he had more scenes filmed, but they didn't make it into the final cut of the movie because Scorsese decided to leave them on the cutting room floor. I don't really believe that Martin Scorsese would do that to Harvey Keitel.
