Casting options

I like Joseph Gordon Levitt and I'm a big fan of Bruce Willis. I thought both actors did a good job in Looper. But I can't help but wonder if the movie would've been that much better with a father and son playing the two leads.

Bruce Willis only has daughters. Imagine if he had a son who was also an actor and could play young Joe. Assuming the son looked like Bruce Willis and not Demi Moore!

Or if age wasn't a factor, Donald Sutherland and his son Kiefer Sutherland could play the two leads because they have a strong family resemblance. Or Clint Eastwood and Scott Eastwood - if acting ability on the younger wasn't a factor, just kidding.

Any other father and son actors who resemble each other that you can think of?

Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez (They actually played young and old versions of the same character in a TV movie once)
Kirk Douglas and Michael Douglas
Morgan Freeman and Alfonso Freeman
Tom Hanks and Colin Hanks

Stellan Skarsgard and either of his two sons — Alexander & Bill Skarsgard.

I won’t say that Alex & Bill are the spitting image of their father now, but Alexander quite clearly resembled his father when he was younger. Although casting Bill in the part of Joe also would’ve been convincing enough.

But while I get what you’re saying, I can’t see the film being automatically better by casting relatives in the lead roles. Levitt (as distracting as his prosthetics could be) and Willis were fantastic in Looper.

Not father and son actors, but Dane DeHaan and Leonardo DiCaprio were the perfect match for this movie. It's like this movie was designed for them but somehow the producers missed this one in a million chance!

Kiefer is about a foot shorter than Donald.

The perfect father and son if it was set in the early 80s would've been Kirk and Michael Douglas.
