This "I Spit on Your Grave" vs the 1978 ORIGINAL I Spit on Your Grave.

Which one in your opinion is better and why, and also, besides a few changes, like the inclusion of a police sheriff (played by Andrew Howard in arguably his least sympathetic role ever, his gangster character from "Mr In Between" (2001) is an angel compared to this - and this is despite the fact that in one movie, albeit in the name of good, he kills his wife and daughter but anyways) and the fact that Matthew doesn't get sent to kill her and pretend he does, would you say the two films are practically identical or are there a lot of differences to this one?

I think that they both have pros and cons. I think I prefer the original, but it might just be because I saw it first. I do think that parts of the 2010 version are a little more brutal than the 1978, but I didn't enjoy what happened to Earl which might account for my preference.

Was Earl that elderly bloke who got shot by the nasty sheriff?

reply

Yes.

I think he was kinda included to show that not ALL MEN are guilty, violent perpetrators of rape and that if something including murder happens to INNOCENT men at the hands of them or otherwise, it is STILL a tragedy and is to be treated and seen as such.

Been a long while since I've seen either version but I remember the remake being pretty much what you would expect, crap.

The remake is better IMO, the original's moral/message (if you could call it that) is the only thing it's got going for it. It was very poorly made even for a late 70's trash exploitation movie. The only entertaining thing I got from watching it was listening to Joe Bob Briggs on the audio commentary, there was a part where he quotes Roger Ebert as saying the film the film lacks even the most simplest of craftsmanship and that "it's pretty hard to disagree with him on that one".

My dirty little secret is that I bought this movie for 2 dollars and it sits in my collection of cult shock films.
