The. Elder Wand ownership

Watching again, and I just noticed...

As Voldemort understood, only the one that kills the previous owner may possess/use the Elder Wand. Since Snape killed Dumbledore, Voldy must kill Snape.
BUT - he doesn't kill Snape, really. He paralyses (?) Snape, but then order Nagini to actually kill him. Therefore, by Voldy's logic, Nagini should actually be the true master of the wand. Oops! Guess you'll have to kill your own horcrux now!

Interesting point, but it was due to Voldy's order that Nagini killed Snape. That said, there is no reason for Voldy to think that the previous owner of the Elder Wand must have been killed by the current owner. He had just talked to the previous two owners before Dumbledore--Gregoroivch and Grindelwald, so obviously, he should have known that killing the previous owner wasn't necessary to become the master of the Elder Wand.

He misunderstood the rules about the wand. You don't have to kill the two owners; you have to defeat them. But to him there's no difference, and killing someone is the one sure way to defeat them permanently.

Whores will have their trinkets.

Nagini was Voldemort's instrument so in effect he was killing Snape.

Also it should be noted there is another plot hole here. Grindelwald didn't even defeat the previous owner. He stole the wand in the middle of the night. How did he become the rightful owner? Does the wand gradually switch its allegiance over time when it realizes it's not going back?

reply

I'm pretty sure Grindelwald stuns Gregorovitch as he steals it, which probably counts as defeating him.

reply

If there was ever any doubt about the Elder Wand's loyalty after Grindlewald stole it from Gregorovitch, Grindlewald would have dealt with it by coming back and hurting or killing Gregorovich.

That would have settled that!

reply

This explains it..killing the owner is not necessary to be master of the wand.
