Not as good as Bruges or Billboards, surprised by the Great Reviewsz

Just seen it, and do feel a bit disappointed as I love Bruges and Billboards, both of which could well have been the best movies of their years for me.

I found Banshees to be a bit too clunky and slow for that first half, and the humour just didn't work for me (and I love things like Father Ted etc...it felt like a sub version of that). It is Very Very Very Irish indeed.

Really quite a basic "quirky" drama for me, feels like it wasted the 2 great actors who did their best, with quite a heavy handed piece.

6.5 / 10 for me, I would put the movie Calvary above it for example.

Just came out from seeing it,

It did start to drag a bit after an hour, we got the set up in the first 5 minutes and then it just repeated itself and i was waiting for something more to happen.

Ok Farrels character was supposed to be boring and he didn't have time for idle chit chat but we see him chatting with others about nothing so that doesn't make sense, unless as the Sister pointing out that he was full of shit was highlighting that he didn't even have a point.

I did find it very cruel i mean i get that life is short but you live in a place with limited people and have built up relationship over years to drop him like that was spiteful and selfish, he was just a total prick and even though you saw his point of view at the start i found him less sympathetic as the film went on

I understand it was about his despair of life in general and he was probably suicidal but that doesn't excuse his meanness.

I may change my mind though on a rewatch of course we never see them as before and given that his own sister left him i can get how this quite man who just wants to muse over poetry and play his violin is bothered everyday by some pleb and he has just been too nice for too long and the other thinks its a friendship while he feels it an inconvenience, i see it from that angle

Still better than the majority of films iv'e seen this year but going in with In Brugge expectations you will be disappointed

Colm isn't borring he just doesn't want to hear about pony shite

I would rate it an 8/10 and rank it 3rd amongst McDonagh's films.

I love McDonagh's previous movies and I was terribly disappointed with this one. I found it really dull. I'll have to give it a rewatch one day to see if my opinion changes.

reply

Dont bother. It is really dull. Maybe i should cut a finger off and give it to McDOnaugh so he would stop making movies.

it's a fecking great movie if you ask me, just gotta pick the right time to see it.
