To subvert expectation: everyone expect famous actors will come out later to have bigger scenes. Like The Last Jedi has a lot of subvert expectation.

shareHawke's scene was definitely filmed in Greece, so he got a nice trip. (He's the guy who sprays something in the people's mouths so they don't have to wear their masks -- a nicely politically correct way to allow the ACTORS not to have to wear masks.)

You'd be surprised how far actors are willing to travel for small bits.
In "Midnight Run" a 1988 action movie with Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin, the actors are in a raging river in Colorado or some such -- but cast and crew flew down to New Zealand just to film PART of that scene!
Surprise random cameos and bit rolls for known actors is nothing new.
Tom Cruise Goldmember, Dan Aykroyd in Temple of Doom, Mike Meyers in Inglorious Basterds, Samuel L Jackson in random Tarantino stuff, John Candy in Home Alone, Matt Damon in tons of shit...
Actors do it for the fun of it, because they like the director, because they owe someone a favor, or just because they think it's funny.
For example, Joseph Gordon Levitt is the voice of the "DONG!" It didn't have to be him, but he has a strong continuing professional relationship with Johnson going all the way back to "Brick."
